Lion
Ideas for Early Lion Meetings
1. Name introductions: introduce yourself and then go around and have everyone say their name. Last week we used a lion stuffed animal as the “talking lion” and everyone said their name when they had the talking lion and then tossed it to the next person to say their name. Any name game would be fun here.
2. Introduce the Scout Sign - show the Scout sign and talk about its meaning. Then have kids make (quiet) silly sounds all together and you show the scout sign which will mean they have to show their scout sign and be quiet. Do it a couple times to reinforce.
3. Introduce the Scout Motto: Do Your Best. Talk about what that means. Have kids each talk about a time they did their best and how it made them feel.
4. Play Red Light/Green Light. Have a red and green piece of paper. Kids take turns being the traffic light showing the red or green “light” while the remaining kids walk or stop based on the color paper shown and show how they can be safe citizens by following the traffic signals. You can talk about what might happen if you don’t follow the traffic signals.
5. Play another round of “Lion Says” which we played last week. It’s just a take on Simon Says and the kids enjoyed taking a turn being the Lion and getting to say what everyone had to do. Be careful here because they wanted everyone to lick the floor and jump on the sofa so you have to moderate heavily. This is a good one for learning to listen to each other and take turns.
5. When in doubt bring a pack of crayons and some paper :)
